I first met Marianne through her considerable involvements in the literary community; she has since become one of our favoured freelancers.
Marianne’s services have been provided on three levels: manuscript evaluation; substantive editing and proofreading. She has been exemplary in all three capacities, saving us both time and money with her ability to intuit errors and problems.
We hope and plan to continue to engage Marianne for many future projects.
Sincerely,

Marianne Ward has edited numerous books for Fernwood Publishing, all non-fiction titles aimed at a primarily academic readership, though with some crossover to a general readership. The titles required varying degrees of copy editing, from light to fairly heavy.
Marianne worked directly with the authors, all academics, to improve the readability of their manuscripts by minimizing jargon and clarifying meaning. One author in particular was so grateful for Marianne’s diligence that he insisted she be added to the acknowledgements for his book, which say, “Marianne Ward has been invaluable in making this book accessible for readers.” In an email he sent to us at Fernwood just prior to the book’s publication, the same author, Professor A. Haroon Akram-Lodhi, Chair of the Department of International Development Studies at Trent University, said, “Marianne has been the best copy editor I have worked with since starting to publish books more than 13 years ago.”
Marianne has always been very thorough, ensuring all manuscripts adhere to the Fernwood Style Guide, and she completed all of her contracts in a timely fashion, submitting on or before the deadline. I will continue to work with Marianne and have no hesitation referring her for any editing work.
Sincerely,
